ELR Autumn Steam Gala

October 18 - 20 2019 the East Lancashire Railway (ELR) staged its annual Autumn Steam Gala. Visiting locos 926 ‘Repton’, 60009 ‘Union of South Africa’ and Black 5, 44871 joined the resident fleet to run an intensive service of passenger trains.

Former Southern Railway 'V' Class 4-4-0, 629 Repton, pulls out of Ramsbottom with a passenger service to Rawtenstall.

Ex-LMS Stanier Black 5, 44871, bringing a service from Rawtenstall, passes 2890 held in the sidings at Ramsbottom with the local shuttle. A regular visitor to the ELR, 44871 is owned and operated by Ian Riley whose engineering works are located down the line near Heywood.

Union of South Africa bursts out of the tunnel at Castlecroft, Bury, on a service for Rawtenstall. This visit to the ELR will almost certainly be its last before retiring in 2020 when its boiler 'ticket' expires.
