A walk on the waterfront at Praça da Ribeira presents a wide variety of bars, restaurants and stalls facing the old sherry lodges across the river at Vila Nova de Gaia.
The magnificent Ponte D. Luís (or Luiz I) Bridgebuilt by Téophile Seyrig and opened on 31 October 1886, is one of six bridges of Porto crossing the Douro River.
The upper deck of the Ponte D. Luís bridge carries the new Metro services across the Douro, whilst the lower level remains a two-way road traffic bridge.
