ELR Western Weekend
25th August 2019
During the late August 2019 bank holiday weekend, the East Lancashire Railway (ELR) staged its Western Weekend. Visiting West Country class, 34046 'Braunton' and resident West Country class 34092 'City of Wells' worked an intensive passenger service.
Built in Brighton in 1946 'Braunton' was rebuilt at Eastleigh in February 1959. The last Bulleid Light Pacific to be saved from the scrapyard for preservation, 'Braunton' is owned and operated by the 'Royal Scot Locomotive & General trust'.
34092 'City of Wells', was the first Bulleid Light Pacific to leave the scrapyard for preservation. Built in Brighton in 1949 'City of Wells’, owned and operated by the ELR, retains its original air-smoothed casing and as a result is referred to as a 'Spam Can'.

'Braunton' bursts out of Bury north end tunnel bound for Rawtenstall.
